Well...sort of. It's amniotic fluid, the liquid cushion your baby's been floating in, peeing in, and drinking. Not the yummiest thought, but it's okay because it's a completely sterile environment in there. No germs.
It's made up of water, and a lot of other stuff. It's similar to the plasma portion of your blood, and has proteins and skin cells and all kinds of things floating in it.
When your baby is born, the first poop she takes is that dark meconium. Well, that's just a buildup of junk that collected in her intestines while she was practicing her swallowing with the amniotic fluid.
All that to say--NO, it doesn't stain the carpets. As long as your baby hasn't taken her first meconium poo IN the amniotic fluid, it will be a straw-colored, clear liquid. If you do see meconium staining when your water breaks, it can be a sign that she's in a bit of distress and you won't care about your carpets. If or when you get around to cleaning them, try SpotShot. Great stuff.

It's amniotic fluid, the fluid that surrounds the baby. I'm really not sure if it stains the carpet, my water always broke in the hospital

No, its Amniotic Fluid. It can be cleaned out of carpet with any carpet cleaner and has a very faint, sweet odor to it. Amniotic Fluid is tinged yellow or it is clear, unless the fetus is distressed and then the fluid will be dark green.

OMG!! No it's amniotic fluid not water. It could stain your carpet especially if it has meconium in it (that's when the baby has a bowel movement before she is born)

It's a clear-to pale yellow, sterile, slightly sweet-smelling to odorless, saline-solution with proteins and misc. waste products from the baby. It does stain, but it's more like spilling seawater, and is easy to wash out. When I had my son, my water broke before I started contracting. My favorite sweatpants and underwear were soaked, and I didn't get to wash them until two days later when I came home from the hospital. They were dried, but didn't smell, and in the laundry the stuff came right out.

specifically situations water will wreck on the onset or a doctor could wreck it, which will help bring about hard paintings. it rather is diverse with each and every woman and each being pregnant. My mom had 12 pregnancies and had her water broken for a number of of them. My water broke on the onset with the two my little ones.

its amniotic fluid, which the baby is protected in throughout pregnancy, its like a "balloon" that starts to leak when the cervix starts opening to let the baby out
