Open up could mean a number of things. One, being your shoulders. Another being you could be curving under when you do your back handspring. You should take up a good amount of space on the ground, and not landing with your hands close to where your feet began. There are many other things your coach should be referring to, so make sure you ask her so you understand how to fix your mistake. It's harder to fix it when you practice it wrong so many times.

Here are some tips for doing your back handspring:
Stand straight, arms by your ears. Squat and start to lean UP and BACK while pushing off your feet. You should be now arching back with your feet off the ground. Your hands reach the ground and you SPRING (push) off of them. Follow through into a standing position and plant your feet to the ground. Remember to use your stomach, back, and arm muscles to snap your body back to a hollow position, pushing off your hands, and land on your feet on the floor.

Good luck and have fun in gymnastics!

Just ask your coach what she means. Coaches know best. For back handsprings I bend my legs swing down my arms, than all at once I jump backward and throw my arms up by my ears, and than they naturaly hit the ground. Your coach probaly means that your piked. Meaning keep your body in more of a straight if not arched position.

Hope this helps.
