For instance, a politician won't say he or she is going to raise taxes. Instead, he or she will say they will let tax cuts expire.

Of course, when the tax cuts expire, taxes go back up again.

By the way, this is not unique to America or American politicians. It's been the case since ancient Egypt and beyond.
