I have a PC. I have a DSL modem that is wireless. I currently drag my phone line across the room to access the internet.

See the problem? :)

Do I need wireless card? How expensive is a wireless card? Is it easy to install?

Help!

As long as your dsl modem is also a wireless router than what you need is either a wireless cardbus card or a USB dongle. Either one will work and both are just as easy to install.

You do need to make sure you know how to setup your router also. Get out the manual and look it over before you decide to do this.

Anybrand wireless card or USB dongle should work fine. I would suggest a 802.11g card, you cant go wrong with one of those since they have been out along time.

There are always great deals on the web, like at tigerdirect.com, but generally they will cost under $30.00.

Wireless cards are about $50.
They are very easy to install.
Open up your case and provided you have a free slot just slot the wireless card in the free slot.
Obviously making sure the PC is switched off first!!
You will probably get a software install CD with a wireless card. Make sure you install this so the drivers are ready for the wireless card.

There are some links below which may help.

No. You do not need a wireless card installed in you PC.

It is best to run the Modem to Telephone jack cord along the wall and then behind the equipment so it is out of the way.

If the cord you have isn't long enough go to one of the computer shops like rad shaq and purchase a longer one that will.

Measure the distance from the wall connection to the place behind your computer then buy a cord with the same jacks that is at least a twp feet longer then your measurement.

Don't buy extensions or joiners so you can attach two cords to make one longer one.
They can sometimes get loosened up and/or you end up with more line noise, both can cause your connection to seem slower or actually get dropped.

$25 to $50 depending on brand:

Some people find it very easy to install, and some people find it extremely hard. It requires opening the PC case, using some handtools(screwdrivers), and beign careful not to touch sensitive parts(the circuit board on the wireless card, or it will get fried). Usually takes no more than 10 minutes to install it.
