The best thing to start with is knowledge: it is all in the mind, not real. If you can do remote viewing with it, you can win $1 million dollars in the JREF challenge.

I started without anything but had lucid dreams more often after I read about lucid dreaming. Doing common things such as keeping a dream journal, reality checks, and morning naps helped too.

I've never mediated and can't sleep with noise so can't say anything about those.

I'd advise you to read what the most common things done by other people and try those but don't forget to take a break if you're feeling frustrated in any way. That's what worked for me.
