I had a new fuel pump and fuel filter installed in my car but whenever I step on the gas (to move from a dead stop position) the engine stalls for a second then jumps to life. No problems after it gains speed. What could be wrong?

If the fuel pump and fuel filter were the only thing changed, then I'd say there's a good chance the fuel filter is installed backwards...

What year make and model? How dirty was the fuel filter before you replaced it? Have you tried a fuel injector flush? When was the last time you had the car tuned up? Spark plugs and wires are OK? Timing and the coil (or coils) are OK? Is the CEL on?
(Check Engine Light) If the CEL was/is on, are there any codes?

i own a repair shop and you need to probably also change the gas filter on it,and check the air filter too,its starving for either fuel or air when it does this, you can also have a bad set of spark plugs in it that will cause this also, they just wont burn a real quick supply of gas when its first dumped in the engine, basically all this stuff is just related to a good tune up,and that should help it a lot, good luck i hope this helps.

could be pulling in air from one of the connections try checking the jubilee clips along the fuel system to make sure there is no gurgling noise or it could just be time to clean the jets in your carb or injectors depending on what sort of engine your car has

Maybe time for a fuel injector flush and throttle body cleaning.
