I have a gyno visit tomorrow. Im 15. I have irregular periods, very very painful, and very very painful. Can a gynocologist prescribe birth control? I heard that that makes them lighter, regular, and less painful.

My mom and grandmother have fibroids. Could I possibly have them and that is why my period is so long, heavy, and painful.

Periods are more painful in your teen years than any other time. Have you tried taking Midol, Tylenol? Birth control would be the last thing I would take for painful periods.
I know a 22 year old girl died last week from a blood clot that was caused from the BC pills she was taking.
Not to scare you but thats one of the side effects of Birth Control.
You are usually older before fibriods show up, but the Doctor will be able to tell you that.
This is a good time for you to go to the doctor. I'm glad your not sexually active, you sound like an intellegent girl.
Hope you do well, and dont worry about the doctors visit

Birth control does give you lighter, more regular periods. And it's not the only reason you get birth control. It's a really good idea. Just understand that it's a huge responsibility. I'm 20 years old and I still have to remind myself to take them everyday at the same time. A gyno is the only person that can prescribe it to you. If you are embarrassed about your parents finding out just talk to your doctor. He or she might be able to help.

Yes to both questions-a gynecologist can prescribe birth control and yes it helps make them less painful and more regular. Talk to the doctor about your options. Going there is never pleasant for any of us...

you may have inherited fibroids but you may not have either, many things cause heavy bleeding and long periods, getting your first exam is not as bad a having those periods and if you can get help it will be worth it, don't get stressed out about the exam, it is the dr's job and just tell them that it si your first one and they will explain what they are doing and why they are doing it

a gynecologist can prescribe birth control.
they will want to find out why your cycle is irregular and why it is so painful for you.
you will be fine.
take care.

Yes, she/he can. But you'll want to find out if it's anything more serious first. (Good for you for scheduling the appointment!)
