Objectively speaking, you have to ask why Edwards didn't keep it quiet. It's a personal matter, has nothing to do with anything and would have made as much sense as talking to a man on the street about their cancer. But Edwards is only relevant because he's running for president, and like any lawyer will tell you no matter what his motivation the jury/audience will empathize. If the cancer had something to do with him running for president then it would have been valid to discuss, since it wasn't and he did anyway, it's obvious it's political because there's no other reason for it. You don't see people IN office getting interviewed on 60 minutes talking about their spouses illnesses. It's logic, plain and simple. There is no logical reason for Edwards to have a public conversation about his wife's cancer that isn't political. If it wasn't political then ANY other person who has cancer would be equally relevant. It doesn't mean he's definitely exploiting his wife's cancer for press, but it does mean he is definitely not innocent of exploiting his wife's cancer for press. Either way the whole point of the story is empathy, which is the result regardless of the motivation.

It probably was, in so much as any publicity is helpful, I would assume (Edwards announcement). Otherwise, why bother making such an announcement? He could have simply released a minor press statement in writing, instead of calling a televised conference.
But Rush calling him on it is uncouth all the same.
And I didn't hear Rush, just basing this on what you are telling us here. I actually had thought the same thing, in the quiet place in the back of my mind, filed with the thoughts I rarely share, for their blatant politically incorrectness.
I should note: I did read a statement, TODAY, from Edwards, in which he denies his release of this information was politically motivated to get the "sympathy" vote. He said NOT to vote for him, if that was your reason.
This says others besides Rush have voiced the same thoughts, for Edwards to make such a statement today in defense of the earlier release.

"I listened all day today and I don't remember that at all. What he DID say was that it represents what kind of person Edwards is to continue his career then spend what could be the last few years with his wife"
$10 dollars says if John Edwards was going off to war and just found out his wife was dieing of cancer the same thing would never be said about it...
John Edwards is a politician running for president... the presidents ultimate calling is to serve America... John Edwards wants to serve America... therefore he feels his ultimate calling is to become elected and to serve America... his wife knows how he feels, and she supports him.
nuff said.

I'm no fan of any of the current democratic candidates, but that would be an ignorant, mean-spirited, heartless thing to say.
I have to commend Edwards for his honesty and candidness; especially during his interview with Katie Couric. He is honestly bringing something into the open which any rational-minded individual would see as being a probable detriment to his political aspirations.

No, it shows the kind of person Limbaugh (and neocons in general) is. He does not care about America, Americans, or anyone other than himself. He said it because that would be exactly his first thought in that situation. Maybe more importantly, Rush is, as usual, wrong in his assessment and judgment. Following his suggestion means surrendering to the cancer and sacrificing what life you have left.
Of course, this is just another example of the personal cowardice of all neocon chickenhawks, who feel nothing for anyone else and will sacrifice anyone else - just as long as they never have to put it on the line. Neocons as great at talking-the-talk, but they are afraid to walk-the-walk.

Because his job is to attract listeners to make bigger ratings and sell advertising at a higher rate. If it takes creating a controversy then so be it. You people are fools if you think Rush Limbaugh provides the marching orders for the Republican party. His audience is equal to a very small percentage of registered Republicans.

Because cry-baby Limbuger saw all of the sympathy that poured in when he announced his Oxycontin addiction and thinks the rest of the world is like him. Using a "poor me" to get the people to hand him a crying towel.
Rush sux AS5....... I wouldn't take anything he said as other than a bottom feeders humor. It's sad that so many stupid people do........

I'm still trying to figure out why it is that more libs listen to Rush then conservatives do. Regarding Edwards, that's up to the both of them and how she feels. I wish her well and hope she get's better.
