I've been at my first job (a local fast food place, not a chain) for almost six months. I only work 1 or 2 days a week just because I don't have a license yet and rely on Mommy for transportation. By June I will have graduated and hopefully have my license and I'd like to work more.

I'm just not sure I want to keep working THERE. My boss has been great on working with me on my schedule and I only work 4hr shifts because I'm still in high school. Problem is, I don't think I could work much longer (physically) than that anyways, so the only way I could work more is by working MORE DAYS, and the hours are right in the middle of the day so that even though it's short, I can't do much else.
I'd love to work more in the summer, I just don't see how I could at this job (which I like, but am not in love with or anything).

Question 1: Should I stick with this job or find a new one?
Question 2: If I do find a new one after only 6mos, will it reflect badly on me in the future?

Thanks for all the great suggestions... what I mean is that I literally physically don't think I can handle longer shifts at my current job. (Not like I'm out of shape, but I have health problems I deal with that make me have less physical endurance... heart stuff.)

Because you are barely 18, your work history is expected to be spotty. You have to focus on school, and can not be expected to work full time. At this point in your life, you are not focusing on a career. You are working for experience, and a paycheck.

Look around, and see what else if available. Don't leave before checking the waters however. You may find that there is nothing out there that will fit your schedule, and you seem to enjoy where you are at now.

It never hurts to "trade up", and you should never stop looking for the career that "suits" you.

Good Luck!!

What's wrong with working the middle of the day. Also, during summer when you don't have school obligations you should be able to handle a much longer shift. When I was sixteen I worked in a restaurant Friday and Saturdays were both 10 hour shifts, then a few 4-5 hour shifts during the week and I was in school with after school activities.

You don't need to quit, you just need to acclimate yourself. Besides the money will come in handy, you'll want to buy a car soon.

Depends on your age. Since you're still in high school, it's not bad to switch jobs so soon. In the meantime, find another job that will give you better hours and possibly pay that you can do. Then you can quit your current job. If not, stick with what you have. If possible, take 2 jobs in the summer! Whatever makes you feel more comfortable.

Look for something else while keeping the fast food job. Maybe you will get another short hours job and you could keep both.
