You can't have two computers on the same network with the same IP address. The IP address is unique to each computer. Typically if you are running a router, it should automatically assign IP addresses to each machine as they come online.

Each is original. If they were the same, conflicts would occur, making a lot of things get confused between computers. It wouldn't be known which one is which. IP addresses range from 0.0.0.0 to 255.255.255.255. Funny how there's enough IP addresses for everyone around the world connected to the internet, huh? I don't know how it doesn't happen, but I would think with the millions of people with computers, there would be an IP address conflict some time. Maybe not. My point is, every IP address is unique and different. One for every computer.

I think people are misunderstanding your question Dan's answer is correct- if you are checking someone's IP address over the internet, you are going to see their public IP address or the one their internet provider assigned. Because in a networked enviroment the internet provider provides you with one IP which get assigned to your cable/dsl modem or router, depending on your network configuration. The router will you assign you a private IP usualy in the range of 192.168.1.X, X being a different number for each computer. So if two people are sharing a dsl internet connection with a router they would have different private IP addresses but the same public IP address.

It's a LAN: Local Area Network.
The IP you see, is the IP that their internet service provider gives them, but the computers are probably hooked up to a router. The router then creates 2 new IP addresses for those 2 computers, but you will not be able to see those IP's as they are local to their network.

Two computers can share the same IP address however they will have different GUID. This is a Global Unique Identifier.

Their router IP address was the one you found, you will never find their internal IP address. Thousands of computers can connect to the internet through a Proxy Server (router), when all of them will have the same IP address.

If they go through the same router/gateway then their IP addresses would be the same. Because your network provider one assigns one IP to that connection line and if more then one computer connects through that line they are all sharing that same IP.

No, each computer on the same network must have a unique IP address. If you are unsure how to assign them, use DHCP.

No, two machines cannot have the same IP address -- at least not if you want both machines to work properly on the network at the same time.
The word your looking for isn't "original" it's "distinct".
