See if the new tenant can pay you for the oil. You probably can't force them but maybe you can give them a good deal. You may have to let them pay you when they begin to use it. If there is no tenant see if the landlord will pay a reduced price. He can then charge his next tenant the full price.

I am not sure what type of oil you are talking about, I presume it is some kind of oil used for heating and or cooking.
Is there a possibility that you could work out a deal with the landlord to pay you for the oil and then let the new tenants pay him since they would probably have to buy it anyway. You might have to discount it 10% but it is better to lose $40 than $400.

Oil company will usually buy it back but at reduced rate. If they won't, sell it to landlord. If they aren't interested, find a way to remove it or advertise it at reduced rate. Someone will buy it.

If you have more oil left than there was when you moved in, you can ask the landlord to reimburse you.

The only thing that you can do is get the next tenants name from the landlord and try to get them to reimburse you.
