I installed a cd/dvd-ram drive almost 7 months ago. But now it won't even read dvd-roms, much less audio cd's. I tried using a cd laser lens cleaner, but still it won't "read" my cd's. When I open the cd-ram file through "My Computer" (I have Windows XP), there appears NOTHING; as if there were no cd/dvd at all. What could be the problem? Am I doing something wrong? Any advice would help me a lot. The last thing I want to do is to take it to the pc repairman again. :(

First Things First.

First.
Your IDE Ribbon Cable 'may' be bad ( causing a Non Recognition of the Drive ). [ Did the DVD Drive Just Vanish, If so, Probably a bad IDE Cable }. Easy to change, around $ 5 or less.

If this is not the problem, Consider ' Second '.

Second.
You did not specify who was the manufacture.
Many DVD Manufactures do make DVD Drives for other 'Branded Companies', Check the Internet using the Model Number, chances are you will come up with the Manufactures Website info. Go to the website and start looking for your model and how to contact them for support.

As ' Most ' DVD Manufactures Do give a 1 Year Limited Warrant, I would contact there website and check under ( either or both ) Customer Service / Product Support.

good luck, hope this helped.

How many cd/dvds have you burned. I use 3 DVD burners in the same yr. I usually burn around 25-40 DVDs a week so thats 1300-2100 DVD/CD a year most burners are good for around 250-400 burns before they start acting up....Invest in another burner....Thanks

try this first , and if it don't work your dvd/cd-rom burner head are broken.
Reload the driver for the drive and update it's firmware . If this doesn't help you either have bad drive / incompatible with sp3 drive / blown head on the drive.
