I always knew it as "Devil's Backbone", but can't find any plant by that name in the "computer world". The plant grows crooked stalks with varigated (small) leaves. actually it's quite ugly. I believe that it is also drought tollerant. It is not bamboo.the stalks grow in a cluster. Have never seen it flower.

The only thing I have heard of that sounds similar is "Devil's Walking Stick" go to google images and do a search, see one link I found that has pictures...

on the link, scroll all the way down to a heading for "fouquieria"
there is a link on it for more images. I think it may be what you are looking for.

Oh, I just found a link for one called Devil's backbone, it also goes by Redbird cactus. See second link...

In my plant books, a Devil's Backbone is a Pedilanthus genus name is tithymaloides. It's also known as a Red Bird, or a Ribbon Cactus. It si a succulent, so it would be drought tollerant.

Yes, it's called Devil Back, and it's a succulent. I have a couple that I bought at Home Depot or Lowe's. They do flower, but the petals are very tiny (red).

JHNV who posted above me shows plants that are not the ones I'm referring to. Mine are only 2-3 feet tall.
