Ive been scheduled to have a meeting with the local HUD/housing officials. It's an extremely important meeting. I requested a sign language interpreter. I called the independent company I was told to and requested an interp.
Just heard back from them. There are no interps avilable for me on the meeting on Wed. They have RESCHEDULED ME for April 11th. They didnt have my permission to reschedule.

I am furious. I feel like I am being shuffled around like a piece of furniture and my appointements are being changed to suit everyone else. I say I have final say in ALL aspects of my life and nobody changes my life without my permission.
Isnt there a rule about the federal gov needing to provide an interp within like 45 minutes?

As an interpreter, I was say it was not up to you to arrange for your terp.
A public government office is responsible for securing, scheduling and PAYING for a terp. They should have scheduled the terp first, then scheduled your appointment.
If they hadn't rescheduled the appointment, would you have gone WITHOUT an interpreter?
Yes you have final say in all aspects of life just like we all do,,oh yeah, I don't have the final say in all aspects of MY life. The government, my boss, my husband, my mom and dad, my kids oh the list goes on and on of people and things that can dictate or alter my final say on things.
The only law I am aware of within the "45 minute" schedule is life or death situations or the police and judicial system.
Good luck

Nope, not at all. What they did is perfectly fine and perfectly legal. They are accommodating you in a "reasonable" manner by providing an interpreter and rescheduling so that the interpreter can be present for YOUR convenience. Also, they rescheduled within 30 days, so judicially speaking, it is REASONABLE for them to do what they did. Too bad you're furious, but that's the way the ball bounces.

Listen, I understand your frustration, but things happen. That's business, especially HUD bureaucracy, and you will have to deal with it. Sorry, but this does not seem to be the slap on the face that you are perceiving. I find that a lot of deaf people feel this way, like, if something bad happens to them it is an insult to their "disability"...I use that term cautiously as I know many don't like to consider being deaf a disability. Anyways, I digress..please don't get a chip on your shoulder...b/c it will only end up making you a miserable and unhappy soul. God bless and good luck on your meeting.
