It would seem to me that attorneys should be given fixed terms of say six years and that there should be a rotating appointment where all of them cannot be appointed at one time. And they cannot be fired without due process.

Without something more...basically it gives the Executive branch the ability to investigate and shut down investigations at will.

If the sorriest,most low-down, hugging the ground, snake-in-the-grass-horse's-patootie President can fire ALL 93 US attornies as he did in 1992...why can't a decent sort of POTUS weed out a few? Using Gonzales?

I think the system is fine as it is as long as it is not being abused.
