Of course it will help them. But will it get them over the hump and into the playoffs?I don't know. The Cubs got Soriano and a healthy Lee to improve their hitting. One of the more quiet moves that I thought was very good was bringing in Ted Lilly. He has the pontential to win 15+ games with a good offense behind him.I see the Cubs with a near 20 game improvment but not good enough for the playoffs. So all in all the Cubs have a good team but not good enough.Cubs will win 84 games.

Answer yourself this. When was the last time the cubs won the division? made the playoffs? won the world series? They have had good pick ups before and did nothing, Sorry to say but i think the cards or astros are still the team to beat. O and by the way I'm in the same boat you are. I am a Phillies fan and they haven't done anything since 93, Great pitching pick ups and players in the off season, Lets see what happens this year. GO PHIL'S

Coming from a lifelong Cubs fan and season ticket holder I will tell you that their offense and speed on the base paths are better than last year. As far pitching is concerned, they are in the same boat or even worse than last year. The Cubs will have to out slug teams to win games.

They should finish above Pittsburgh. Don't expect the playoffs. You're talking about the Cubbies. They haven't won anything in a century. They ain't gonna change that any time soon.

Unless you think picking up a guy who was left of the post-season roster because he had the highest ERA of any starter is a great pickup, then the answer is no.
But hey, you always have Wood and Prior.... wait, they are hurt. Sorry.

Without a doubt! They are good enough to win their division.
