People say "expect the unexpected" alot. But wouldn't that make it expected, not unexpected? It doesn't make sense to me. Why do people say that?

Expect the unexpected means to expect that something you haven't planned on to happen. It simply means that you can count on things that are strange or unusual to occur. It doesn't prescribe which particular events might happen.
