Call the doctor. Newborns do sleep a lot, but usually wake every few hours to feed.

My son and one of my daughter's had jaundice...my son's was real bad. He almost needed a transfusion. I remember that when we came home he slept like that, and he was okay. He needed the extra sleep. I had to wake him up to feed him every two hours. Feeding him alot made the jaundice go away sooner the doctor's said. I would say that she will be okay, and you should see some improvement in a couple weeks.

Its probably the jaundice but I would also check to see if shes too warm. Try changing her diaper before you feed her to wake her up. My daughter had jaundice and was sleepy for the first few days so we had to do that. Also, if the jaundice is coming back ask your Dr. if you can get the bili-bed for your house. You can just set it in their crib or bassinet! Thats what they sent us home with because I just didnt want her to have to stay or worse go back!
newborns DO sleep alot though...that, eat, and dirty diapers!

For babies with jaundice, level or state of conciousness should be assessed because if the level of bilirubin in the blood is high will lead to kernicterus or brain damaged. You also have to feed him every 2 hours to eliminate the excess bilirubin out from the system.Being lethargic or difficult to aroused should be reported to your doctor so that a blood draw can be ordered to check the level of total bilirubin.

It does not sound right. I have a 27 days old son. He had jaundice on day 3 and 4, the level was back to normal on day 5 (thanks God). He was quite sleepy on those 2 days but not that sleepy as you described. He waked up whenever he was hungry (every 2 to 3 hours), we didn't need to wake him up to feed. Call your doctor right away. Not enough liquid may lead to dehydrate! Good luck!

If you are concerned it doesn't hurt to talk to your Pediatrician. I remember my boys as newborns, all they did was sleep. I had to wake them up int the day for them to eat.

I'm sorry but that sounds lethargic to me. My 1 week old would stay awake for at least a few hours per day. Please call your doctor.
