less people travel in the winter,then in the summer.for instance motel rates go up in the summer as well,with people vacationing.

Those who said "supply and demand" are right. When there is a limited supply of gas (or anything else, for that matter) that can be produced, and people want to travel, the oil companies can get away with charging more because people are still going to buy it. Very few people will cancel their trip because gas prices went up 20 or 30 cents. But in the winter, when demand for gas is lower because people travel less, the oil companies lower the price to entice people to buy it even though they don't use as much. They do however use much more home heating oil, so the "poor " oil companies still turn a huge profit.

it is all about the prophet in winter more car/trucks don't go as far but in the summer you not only burn more because of ac but more people go on trip fishing hiking hunting and there is a large quantity of jobs that can not run in the winter so the less people need the gas lower the price goes

Because gas companys plan on making their big money from people vacationing and traveling during the summer months so they put the price up.

There is more of a demand for heating oil so those prices are higher and gas prices can be lower.

Supply and demand. Taco Bell sells more bean tacos cuz of the glut in the bean prices and can sell them at a lower price.
