how do I work this problem, and what is the correct answer?

multiply.
30% x 20 = 6
20% x 30 = 6
They have the same answer.

Ok, well the obvious is to multiply it:
30% X 20
.30 X 20
6
20% X 30
.20 X 30
6
But do you know why this works?
Think about it. And what you used to do with long multiplication by hand. Both times you are pretty much multiplying a 20 and a 30, and since one of the factors is a decimal of two places, you just move over the answer two spaces each time.
So...20 X 30 and 30 X 20 will both give you 600 each time. But either the 20 or the 30 was a decimal in each of those problems, the decimal having two decimal spaces. So, then when you would be moving your decimal spaces two over, you would be getting six both times!
Do you actually understand it now? That's what's important.

30% of 20 is another way of saying 30/100 x 20. And 20% of 30 is 20/100 x 20/
30% is roughly one third, 20% is roughly one fifth.
So one third of 20 is going to be somewhere around 7, and one fifth of 30 is pretty close to 6.
If you need precise comparisons, you can multiply 30/100 x 20/1 and that will give you the exact number.
Then multiply 20/100 x 30/1 to solve that problem.
Comparing the two, you will see which is the larger number.

Well, you must first change the percent to a decimal or fraction. I always choose decimals because it's easier for me.
So, the decimal of 30% is .30 and the decimal for 20% is .20.
.30 x 20 = 6
.20 x 30 = 6

30% of 20 ... simply multiply ... .30 x 20 and you'll get 6
now ...
20% of 30 ... once again, multiply ... .20 x 30 and you'll get 6.
Both are equal.
