How many rock guitarists can you name that are self-taught and what guitarists cannot read or write music,Jimi Hendrix is the only one i know of----,what about the likes of mark knopfler,eric clapton,etc,etc?And do you think it makes it easier to learn if you can read and write music notation?

along with what names are out there. Diamond Dave, may he rest in piece, Edward Van Halen, Nicki Six. KNowing notation is only going to help you if you plan on using it to learn. There is so much more then reading music. It is mostly about technique. I cannot read or write in notation, but I can read tablature. I am self taught, and can shred my bad a-- Ibanez.

Probably the most influential blues guitarist ever BB King. Completely self taught. Inspired Slow Hand and many others although I believe that he did eventually learn to read music. Saw him last year in Manchester with Gary Moore as a warm up act. Awebloodysome.

steven wilson of porcupine tree, mikael akerfedlt of opeth, the guy from muse, actually i know more that are self-taught. really it works either way. ive been taking lessons for years, and im definitely glad i chose this route.
