My girlfriend is by nature very sensitive and unfortunately suffers from chronic axiety. She also happnes to be a huge lover of rock music, everything like Led Zeppelin, Alice In Chains etc. etc. I never grew up with that kind of music, and whenever I do try to listen to it, I only get jittery and disoriented - very heavy guitar riffs and loud seemingly disconcerting lyrics, etc. I know some people swear by that kind of music, but do you think this may be contributing to her anxiety? Should advise her to cut down on it?

I used to listen to extremely depressing and angry music in high school. I also suffered from anxiety and depression. I beleive alot of times the mental problems already exist in these people , and that is why they are drawn to the lyrics and the overall "feel" of the music, because it makes them feel like they are not alone. I wouldn't blame her anxiety on the music, it was probably present before she began to like this music. But I can honestly tell you that it cannot be helping. It will keep her dwelling in her problems and it will just be a continuous cycle, untill she decides to break free from it. Music does have a big impact on our emotions. I know for me, I cannot listen to any of the old music I listened to, because it brings back the old emotions again. Now when I get down, I turn on some positive, upbeat music and my spirits always get lifted. Maybe you should try listening to some when she's around. Find something with a good beat and a positive feel, something that will be easily enjoyed by pretty much any music lover. She may begin to grow a liking to it. Things grow on us over time with repetition. I know 80's music does it for me, also techno and punk music because it is very energetic, as long as the lyrics and beat give you a positive feel.

I highly doubt it. Music is not something that usually causes stress when the listener likes the type pf music being played.

Music can distract people from their worries.
This helps to relieve stress.
I would not worry about it.
But I do not listen to those specific bands so I do not know the lyrics.
I cannot listen to Rob Zombie or Emo.

well, a lot of times the lyrics can be unnerving or depressing, so that could affect how she feels.

Stay away from her. She will croak on her own horror and take you with her.
