This purchase doubled the size of this country for a fairly cheap deal. It also help fund the government of France and helped Napoleon keep his armies in good order. Thus England was forced to deal with him instead of exerting their power to give us a hard time. The war of 1812 might have turned out a lot different if the British weren't otherwise occupied trying their best to preserve European royalty and crush the French Republic.
