Yes, but it all depends on how you look at it.

If someone tells you that they looked into your gene structure and found out that you were going bald, would you believe them? If you did, would you go bald? What if you don't? Did it have something to do with your genes, or the amount of stress you may or may not have put yourself under?

And, a question like this is asking for the worst possible scenerio. What if someone told you that your gene structure predicts that you will live for 120 happy and healthy years with absolutely no sickness whatsoever? What if gene theory could predict the exact type of mate that was perfect for you, or even your career? Do you really want that type of knowledge?

Either way, what gene theory does, is it studies the core of our nature, something that is unchangeable, but regardless, we still have a choice to rationalize the situation accordingly. Take an example of two wise men, one has all the wealth he could ever need, but the other has no wealth at all. Who is happier? If they are both wise, they are equally as happy regardless of their fortune.

So, be wise with your life and don't worry about what genes may or may not be doing to our lives.

No. We are also the product of our environment also. Basically, we all inherent 23 chromosomes from the mother and 23 from the father--46 in all. All homo sapient today are derived from a common progenitor: Australopithecus: evolution. Our development is heavily dependent upon where we grow up, the climate of the region and the surrounding people in said environment--whether positively or negatively influence our behavior. The entire idea and definition of "Race" as it is today outside the context of anthropology and genetics, is a misnomer. We are one species as determined by our chromosome number, which is by and large dependent on our evolution. And yes, we are talking about thousands of years of evolution that our DNA as evolved at where we stand today: not very smart, still trying to answer who we are, where do we come from and where are we going from here. Good luck Hunting.
