I met my penpal from Scotland of about 8 years now online. It was a mistake, she sent me an email that was meant for my friend but we got to talking anyway and we became good friends. I was a sophomore in high school when we started talking. After a while my mom started talking to my penpal's mom and they got to be friends too. After many, many conversations and in my senior year she came over to visit me. The following September I went with my mom to visit her and her family in Scotland.

I had the time of my life and have returned to Scotland once after that and I'm planning on visiting again in 2008. Everyone I encountered were wonderful people and they were all excited to show me their country.

I do know how bad this could have turned out but since we had been talking to each other for so long and I got my parents involved everything worked out. It could've been a predator on the other computer but we got to know each other so well and got our families to know each other too.

If you're thinking about doing this, I recommend going only after years of talking to each other. It's the only way of knowing if the person is who they say they are. It's really risky even after that. Just be very aware that there are plenty of people out there who want to take advantage of you. And if you're still living with your parents get them involved. Tell them who you are talking to, have them talk to them, even take one of them with you on the trip if it comes to that. BE SUPER CAREFUL!

I'm going to toss a little 'play on words' with you...

I'm from Texas, and at one time, Texas was it's own nation. So on that premise - - -

Yes, my boyfriend (now hubby) came from Buffalo NY (USA) to visit me in the Country of Texas (TEJAS) and visited 3x before he moved here permanently.

We met on-line thru Christiancafe.com in August 2004. He traveled by 4 buses, 36 hours each way, and had to cross the US border of Oklahoma into Tejas Country. He had a Buffalo Visa, so had no problems coming over for visits. On his last visit (before he moved here on a permanent Tejas visa), the bus company (Greyhound) mislaid his luggage which had nearly all of his belongs, and a Texas native (who was visiting with a galfriend at Will Rodgers State University in the US state of Oklahoma) noticed the luggage was unattended, so he stole it. My beau and I had to have his visit for Valentines (2005) in his travel clothes (of 36 hours) and we had to buy him more clothes. That was not fun - loosing new luggage w/all of his things. Then, finally my beau moved permanently to the Country of Texas (Tejas), and he changed his citizenship from Buffalo to Tejas! We married Valentine's Day 2007, and now he's a bonified citizen of the Country of Texas (Tejas) !

All I can say is that travel by Greyhound Bus, 1300 miles, 36 hours, 4 buses for a man alone, 100% wheelchair dependent is very dangerous. Greyhound Buslines does an inadequate job of luggage handling and safety for it's handicapped patrons.

I've seen several girls in Greece that have had their passports taken and put into white slavery. Better be very careful.
