Paint got under the tape, a very common problem. Or, the paint on the tape had a contiuous bond with the tape on the wall. When you removed the tape, it pulled up a bit of the paint on the wall. I have never been happy with tape as an edger for painting. It is a good addition to careful edging, but not a substitute.

You have to be careful when buying masking tape. Most are not for painting those that are for painting are usually 3 - 4 times more $. If your still have your label from the tape read the small print.
I think that for the best results just go free hand with a good 2" or 2 1/2" sash brush brush. This saves so much time. I always start in the least noticeable area to get the feel of the brush / paint / wall. within a few feet I'm jamming. Sure from time to time I get a little paint where didn't want it. I just go back through with an artist's brush fixing all those little spots in 5 - 10 minutes, less time then taking down tape.

Sometimes the blue painter's tape stretches a bit during application, and paint seeps under it.

A way to avoid it in the future is to apply the tape, then apply a light coat of paint, brushing from the tape towards the wall. Let it dry, then finish painting.

3M Fine Line Tape works well; it's vinyl and pressure sensitive.

You went wrong by using tape. (in my opinion) You could have used a straight edge to paint against. It works much better than tape if your careful. You can buy them anywhere you buy paint.

It might have been that you didnt smooth out the air bubbles. Do you know that fancy packing tape contraption with the smoother on the other side of the tape cutter? Try using that next time. It help me.

you should have used the green tape, and you don't let the paint dry before pulling it off, paint if latex and makes a film especially a good semi gloss, after it drys it's like pulling of a sheet of saran wrap.

tape needs to be smooth, & tight on the surface, or you will get a ribbing, or web effect. some designers do this on purpose.
