If you were 5cm, the doctor would have admitted you. The mucus plug can fall out weeks before labor so that's not always a sign. Mine was gone at 35 weeks and I had the baby at 38 weeks.

YES! 5cm is close....the rest of the dilation could happen very quickly. Swollen doesn't have much to do with it, that's a pregnancy thing. Mucus plug and 5cm is a big deal. If you start bleeding, hurry. Get yourself to a hopsital now, or at least call your doc! Be prepared!

While swollen feet and ankles is just one of those things pregnant women deal with, a swollen face in later pregnancy can be a sign of preeclampsia and is cause for concern. If your doctor has not been notified of this, it is best to contact him/her immediately. I have had 4 babies and know a lot of women who have been pregnant. I don't know anyone who reached 5 cm dilation without being in active labor. I think that is very unusual. You can lose your mucous plug several weeks before labor begins.

Most doctors say that once you loose your mucus plug labor is only at most 24 hours away. I would contact you doctor and let him know you lost your plug. Most hospitals admit women at 5-6 cm. Also you should call your doctor if the swelling in your face and feet was sudden or severe because that could be a sign of preeclamsia. Good luck!

you are very close that is for sure. but really hon it could be tomorrow or a few weeks. sorry there is no way to know. you can be dilated, swollen and loose your plug a month or better before labor begins. be patient i know it is hard when you are this close but it will happen and you will have a beautiful baby befor you know it. congratulations.
the person below me does not have a clue. i lost my plug 1 month before labor began and unless you are in active labor they will not admit you.

Ummmm, I would say yes! When I hit 5 cm I was in the hospital hooked up and ready to go. Your going to be a new mama real soon ;o) I cannot believe at 36 weeks and 5 cm your Dr. is letting you be at home...........

once you reach 4cm your considered to be in active labor, so even if your not feeling much pain at this point you still might want to get over to the hospital.

at 5 cm I am not sure why they did not admit you to the hospital. I suggest taking yourself in and I am 100% sure that you will have your baby. They normally don't let you go home after 4cm.
