Why does my battery meter keep going on high?

Sounds like a bad voltage regulator in the alternator. Check the battery with a volt meter. if it reads over 14.5 v with the engine running, replace the regulator (or more likely the entire alternator).

Overcharging will boil the water out of the battery, so check it and fill with distilled water if necessary. Wear eye protection whenever you work around a car battery.

This could be 2 things, either the voltage regulator in the alternator is bad or your battery cells are dead and the alternator is overcharging, but the battery isnt taking the charge. To check this hold a volt meter across the battery, have someone crank the car and notice what the voltage drops too. If it goes under 10 volts the battery is bad. If it dosent then the voltage regulator is bad.

The dash meter measures the battery charging voltage which typically ranges from13.5 to 14.75 volts when the engine's running. To accurately measure the battery charging voltage, you need a Digital Multi- Meter (DMM) which can be connected directly across the battery terminals. Then you can calibrate your dash meter. Otherwise, the dash meter is simply a general indication of charging voltage and cannot be depended on for accurate readings unless it's a digital volt meter with the proper resolution and accuracy.

When you say High does that mean it is overcharging,Like Maybe your Dim Headlights light up a half mile ahead,and battery is leaking liquid from top-----That would tell me the Regulator in Alt;or Ext. Regulator is inop.

this happenes often when the altenator is getting ready to go out. the altrenator will sometimes produce to much power or to little ... or both
