Should I join a sorority? Is it hard living in a sorority house? I know at my university the Greek system is very small and not party-ish like other schools, but I live in a conservative area so the greek system is still looked upon like partiers, but I know they do a ton for the university, and have pretty strict codes.

Is joining a sorority a good idea? Do they have weird frat-like customs or is it more like Legally Blonde?

Also, I think joining a sorority would be good for me, because I live in an EXTREMELY conservative area, where drinking coffee means your 'liberal'. I'm not the most social person if i am at home, i think the social opportunities would help me in college, i am/wasn't very social in HS and I think joining something with people who are a little more like me (the greek system at our school once again is probably like a normal non-greek college student)

Join a sorrority or frat that does things like community based activities and charity events not the ones that waste real time partying and carrying on because it doesnt look good. A lot of greek organizations are now being told to clean up their acts for recent hazing incidents and if you're being told to do harmful things to yourself or others report the group immediately to the college or university administration and to the police because schools are not having it with the law suits coming from parents who kids were victims of hazing since it costs schools millions of dollars when they have to settle these kinds of suits.

Find one that swears you in by oath and does a respectable banquet afterwards. Again if you see they're doing something potentially illegal or harmful to you or others report them for misconduct and they'll lose their place on campus and even have the houses shut down since they rent the space from the college. Plus some of these people who join frats and sorrorities are kind of stuck up acting as if they're better than everyone.

From what I've seen sorority girls are extremely shallow and really not the type of people that I would want to be friends with. They talk terrible about one another behind the others back but all sweetness and light to their face.

I think belonging to a group or club at a school can be great but I don't believe that sororitys encourage acceptance and build character. This is a general statement, I'm hopeful that there are other sororitys out there that aren't as shallow as the ones I've known.

yeah go for it but make sure it is all that you belive it to be right now. Also, make sure you know how your school views Greeks. At some colleges once you become a Greek, you are stuck with that label and you may seem to be unapporoachable by non Greeks. If you have done your research and feel happy about it then go for it!
