Is there anything special secreted from the stomach to keep it from burning? I mean, if the stomach acid has such a low pH, wouldn't it sting your stomach?

the stomach is covered with a thick coating of alkaline mucus which is produced by goblet cells in the columnar epithelium cells. The alkaline environment is produced by the HCO- ions that are secreted with the mucus.

The stomach has a mucous lining which prevents the acid which digests your food from digesting your stomach lining as well. So although if the acid were in direct contact with the stomach lining it probably would sting, in this case it does not do so because of the mucous lining.

The stomach has a thick lining of Mucus that protects the stomach walls from the burn of the acids.

If there was a gap in the lining and the acids came in contact to the vulnerable wall of the stomach, that is called an Ulcer.

so basically, Snot protects your stomach from ulcers.

because God thought of a cool way to protect us...the cells of the stomach lining are very close together and there is a protective mucus that he designed (just to be sure)....course if we stress out too much and they pull apart, then he punishes us with pain and that is called an ulcer....he thought of everything....its Gods Plan....Let us Pray........
