in the game "mario & Luigi superstar saga", how do you defeat the caterpillar in the chuckleroot forest?

i understand you need to turn all the segments on the caterpillar yellow, but none of the moves i used did this. is there a certain move you need to do. or is there a special move we can use. any help will be appreciated.

If I remember right, each segment on the caterpillar is attackable. What you need to do is jump on each individual segment (you can use the standard jump attack) so all four segments are yellow. Use the left and right keys on the D-Pad to select each segment individually
