Why do you think it is more comfortable to ask questions to complete strangers than people you know?

Because we aren't being judged

The strangers don't know you, so they don't have any preconceptions of who you are. Also, if the strangers go their way you don't have to deal with a change in their opinion of you.

one would be less concerned about what kind of response they received because this person is not a peer so to speak.also,people that don't know you usually don't judge you--which no one ought to do anyway.
