So there isn't a section for "road test" so I guess it would go here. Anyway, I have my road test next thursday (april 5th) and I'm so nervous! This is my THIRD time going! 1st time I was too cocky and failed horribly. The 2nd time I went to another 6 hours of driving school (required here in NJ but this 6 hours = 12! cause I already went when I turned 16) and I practiced parallel parking for an HOUR and when I went to take my road test I failed the parallel parking and I knicked one of the cones coming out! :[[

How come I can parallel park on the street but not for my test!? I'm so nervous because if I fail again I have to wait 6 months to re-take it. I can't afford to wait that long as I just got a new job and with summer, I have no way of getting there!

Anyone have any tips/advice on how to make sure I pass this time?!

I'm going to a different DMV .. and with this one after you parallel park .. you have to K-turn out of the space! AH. I'm going to be practicing but ..

I retake my drivers test for the third time on April 4th.

I am in the same situation.

The first time i failed for not being stopped long enough at a stop sign [Winslow Twp]. The second time i failed for nicking a cone while backing up in my k turn. [Cherry Hill]

If you are going to cherry hill to take your test make sure after you parallel park to back up as much as possible [without hitting the cones of course] before starting your K turn, cause that is what i did wrong.

I am taking my new test in Salem cause i can't afford to fail for another dumb reason, and everyone has told me it is the easiest to pass.

Good luck to you, and i hope for both our sakes we can not be too nervous and fail again.

It really depends on which road test facility you go to. For instance, the one you have described (as the one you will go to on april 5) sounds like Eatontown. In Eatontown, they make you do a k turn from the parallel park and then backing up straight right after that. This can cause a few problems, such as hitting (even gently) one of the surrounding curbs since it is a relatively tight space. Additionally, coming out from the k turn you must make sure you are perfectly straight RIGHT away or you will have trouble backing up straight. Additionally, some testers there have failed people for brushing the curb on the way into parallel parking. I don't mean to make trouble for you, but I would say that in your case you would probably be better off taking the test somewhere else, like trenton or Miller airpark. As odd as it may sound, different facilities look for slightly different things. For instance, some places are more strict on parallel park (how many times do you do that in real life??) than others. It is really easy to switch to these facilities online or by phone. If you are not in that area, there are still some areas which would be better for you than the one you have described as the location for the 5th.
Lastly, did you try switching schools, as some may have a different approach which might help you?
Best of luck!!!

I've had my license for a few years, now, and not once can I remember ever parallel parking. I know some places you're going to have to, but it's so uncommon, why do they even bother putting it in the driver's test. Just do it for extra credit. Don't be nervous, go out and practice the maneuvers from the test. By now, you know what they expect you to do. Nike says Just Do It! You'll be fine.

Don't go to Hamilton off Route 1. I failed the road test there due to the course or track. To many stop signs, steep turns, and the test coordinators literally fail people on purpose. The track is literally about less than half the size of a football field with potholes in certain area's and a friend of mine who owned his own Driving School failed there. Research track layouts for different locations and ask questions even if the coordinator gets pissed off at you. The track speed limit will say 5-10 miles per hour, do that speed limit even if the coordinator says do above that.

I live here in NJ, and the other day i was getting my car inspected. while waiting i was watching the road tests. it's alot easier to parallel between two cars then a bunch of cones with sticks sticking out of them. Maybe you should practice with cones..............Even if you have to go and "find" some. You don't want to fail again. Good Luck!!!!!!

What you lack is confidence. How do you get it???? Practice and practice.. Keep it up until you get it cold.
then you will still be nervous, but you will have more confidence in yourself and you'll be in a better shape to get through it.

The next time I run up to Seaside Heights or Cape May try not to park next to a brown pick up with KY plates. LOL

Just relax , take your time . The examiner wants to see if you are safe out on the road.

after you park , just take a moment , think through what you need to do , then go for it .

I think I had 30-40 hours of driving experiance before taking the test . We had the driving school time , and time with parents driving around an empty parking lot , and every trip we could beg for stuff froj the store.

Calm down, don't syke yourself out! just act like it's someone you're driving somewhere you've never been. things should turn out right.
GOOD LUCK!

well there are several factors. If it is his name on the registration then he needs to be on the policy as a rated driver or as an excluded driver. some companies dont allow excluded drivers. If he is a rated driver on the policy it wont matter. i would contact your agent and they can tell you your options. but the same address wont work. specially if he has a lien/financed through a bank he has to have insurance in his name.
