Hello. Ah New York City... wish I were there right now... with plenty of dough to spend and a nice hotel to stay in. NYC's a really neat place. The art museums are wonderful (especially the Met and MoMa) and there's just so much art to see, enjoy, and revel in. Getting to see a Salvadore Dali, VanGough, Miro, etc. all in one city is really cool. I really like the subway, hearing it as it zooms through the tunnels sounding like you're in a thundershower, smelling the subway under your feet, having a smoothie at Jamba Juice (wish I had one right now!), having some pizza (from either Pizza Suprema {after you blot the grease... ha, ha}, Cafe Amore, or Two Boots {like over in NoHo}) or something. The Museum of Natural History is outstanding, not to mention how they have so much to be seen there. Being on top of the Empire State Building and overlooking Central Park is wonderful, as well as taking the ferry to Lady Liberty and Ellis Island. The people will help you find your way, albeit there's a lot of folks who are also visiting and don't know english, and walking over the Brooklyn Bridge is neat. You hear folks singing and playing their instruments for change on the subway system and telling their stories. You go over to Time Square and see all the lights of the area at night... and you definitely gotta go see a play on Broadway. I met Brent Spiner once, a very, very kind cordial man to meet from Star Trek fame. Oh boy... I've got a New York state of mind now!

It's huge - much bigger than any other American city. You think you've seen everything, then you turn the corner, and it's a whole new world. Get used to seeing a lot of people.

It can be a little cold and rushed, but once you get used to the pace and atmosphere, it's not bad. If you're a tourist, those people tend to look after each other. Just take it on its own terms and you'll be OK.

Take advantage of the subway system - it will really shrink the city for you. It's dirty and smelly, but a very valuable part of getting around the city.

I absolutely LOVE New York City. It's busy and there is always something going on! I love walking everywhere I go (it's pretty much a pain to drive, obviously) and being amongst millions of people on the sidewalks - but I'm a city person; I guess it depends on personal preference.

Plus, New York has some of the best stores around!

It depends on where you come from. If you come from a small town you will be in awe and overwhelmed. I was up there Saturday night. At 3:45 in the morning I went to a place that served me fresh strawberries with whipped cream and champagne while people were dancing, music blaring. Remember it's 3:45 in the morning and I had to wait 45 minutes on line to get in! In time square you will see more people in the afternoon than you have MET in your whole life.

Been there, done that, not planning on going back. I even had the misfortune of living there for a few months. Its the most over-rated place on earth if you ask me. Its ugly, it smells, everything is overpriced and it is so fricken loud all the damn time! I have been to other major cities (Boston, London, Paris etc) and they were all better than that rotten apple!
