I used Crucial.com and found their site very useful

There are many links that will tell you what is currently on your system, and ones that will help you select the proper RAM, and ones that provided step-by-step guides to installation in your system.

Please go to the pencil icon on the button bar below your Question, and select "Add Details" and tell us specifically what kind of CPU you have what kind of RAM you purchased, and what happens when you turn the computer on -- Thanks!

Many newer PCs do not work correctly with two sticks of memory that are not equal in size. Additionally the ram you're trying to add may not be the correct type/speed for the machine. We would need to know what type of machine you have and what type of ram you were trying to add to it.

What kind of problem did you have?
No start up, Your new ram is not detected
Please give more info.

The right way is to open up your case look for the empty Memory slot insert and boot up your computer thats usually all you have to do.

Hi. If the RAM modules are not the same size it is usually better to have them with the highest capacity in slot 1, next in slot 2, etc.
