My spouse and I moved 2500 from where we used to live. Things did not go as we thought they would. I lost my job,
people in this here parts are very closed to the world and dont even open thier shades in the day time and when it is nice out.
Making friends is not as easy as I thought it would be. I do like it here in AZ I truly do but my question is how do I get through the adjustment period and how long does it take to adjust to a new area? People are relaxed here and friendly but they are susipoius of outisiders. How can I deal with this as well?

When you join a church and get involved there are so many nice people that you will get to know. If you are not working, you may want to do some volunteer work, at the schools, library, food shelf's, etc. There are so many ways to meet people, but you have to get out in the eye of the public to find them. It took me about 1 and 1/2 years to really feel at home when I moved away from my home town.

When you get a job again, it will be easier, as work acquaintances often become friend associations. Until then, find a church and join the choir, or the YM (or W)CA and join an aerobics class to meet people, any type of hobby or activity oriented group will do the trick to meet people of similar interests, which will get you into conversations that can turn into friendships. Be forwardly friendly to your new neighbors, go out of your way to ask them questions about where the best shopping is, or the best Dr., Dentist etc. so they are put in a sympathetic, helpful position which most people respond to. This will again open doors of communication and good will toward the 'new people on the block'.

When you move into an established neighborhood, you run into this sort of thing. You might see if there's any club for newcomers to Arizona. If you had moved into a new neighborhood, you wouldn't have had this problem. Everybody would be in the same boat.

It's a big change, no doubt. the only thing that will help is time - and keep your chin up - it's not easy to be the new kid on the block but it won't be that way forever as long as you stick it out & be friendly.

my suggestion is to do your best not to be an outsider. look for opportunities to meet your neighbors. go to local functions, church, civic meetings, and anywhere else people gather. "walk across the room" and you will be shown the way. good luck.
