If they're liking it they should do it not long after they're born. If you're having to hold it because they keep dropping in then they are not that interested in it. Think about how hard they suck on their bottle or however you're feeding them. If the bottle wasn't so heavy their suction would be hard enough to hold it in their mouth. Take it from someone who breast fed, their suction is super strong! :)

I think babies have the instinct since birth to suck (some babies suck their thumbs when still on womb) so I think if your baby is found to pacifiers he/she will take it with no problem just as he takes the bottle or breastfeeds...if your baby is not taking the pacifier don't push it maybe its best. Sometimes is harder to whine them down from the pacifier.
Good luck!

Two of my children refused a pacifier. The other one took it at birth. I guess it depends upon the child.

Mine was about 9 days old before he would take one - not that he really needed one before that he was always asleep prior.

The person that invented dumies should have been granted an award - when that is all that will stop the crying it gives me sanity.

Maybe by 3 months. Before then it just keeps falling out and you have to keep putting it back in, especially at night.
