We will be there for 2-3 nights in June. We want to stay near the central part of the city but not near the train station. We do want air conditioning and will need either two double beds or four single beds. Thanks

Okay here is the thing you can stay in Mestre which is closer to Venice and the hotels will be cheaper than if you stay inside Venice! Keep in mind that you will be paying a bundle just to stay in Venice. The transporation to go to Venice from Mestre or Treviso is inexpensive and very easy since the buses going to Venice are labled VENEZIA and it's the last stop! The trick is remember where you took the bus when you go back at night, but you can ask your bus driver which usually are friendly and will let you know. I stayed in Treviso in Park Bolognese Hotel which was nice and has a/c and the bus to take is literally across the street! You buy your ticket round trip from the newsstand across the street and they will tell you where to wait for the bus. Word to the wise when waiting for the bus keep an eye for it becasue you have to signal (waving) the bus to stop otherwise it will keep on going ! Also trying going to Sidestep for discounts! that is where i found a great deal!

The thing to remember in Italy when you are travelling in Italy with a family is to stay in a hostile. Get a room that will accomidate 4 people.

I stayed in the Hotel Abbazia earlier in March. I don't know if they have room that accomedate 4 people, but call them. They may have rooms that adjoin. It is a wonderful little hotel, it used to be an abbey, with a great breakfast and a staff that was the most helpful of any hotel I ever stayed at.

FYI my husband was in the hospital for our three days in Venice and the hotel called the hospital for me, even when I didn't ask, to check in on him and followed up with me in English. If you would like a hotel with a wonderful helpful staff call them. They might be able to help you with accomdations in Venice that would help you as well. They are a member of the independent hotel owners of Italy. Or something like that.

Get the Rick Steves Italy book - you won't regret it. We stayed with a little lady who rents out 4 rooms in her beautiful old home right on Saint Mark's Square - no a.c. - for less than $100 per night. He updates his books each year and visits each location. His books pay for themselves the first time you use any of his hotel advice.
