Couple of ideas (in no particular order):
1. Join the Chamber of Commerce.; great networking potential.
2. Introduce yourself to real estate agents; most people who need their home inspected are referred to inspectors by their real estate agents.
3. Introduce yourself to local mortgage lenders; same reason as #2.
4. Yellow page ad.
5. Join a trade group:

I just moved from Long island. first are you a licensed home inspector, second have you looked at your competors? There are a couple of places you can market something like that. One is an ad in FSBO magazine and in other realestate magazines. The next is realitors, Next is go to open houses and people who are selling houses can sell them faster if they are preinspected and they could give a potentail buyer a copy of the report. Maybe offer the home owner a cut of your fee if they recommend you. Mortage companies are another source many require a certified inspection these days. Its not going to be easy the LI market is flooded with inspectors and the realestate market right now on LI is bad. I would hit every realitor and contractor in a 2-3 mile radius of your home for starters and see what kind of feed back you get.
