Unknown, but it could have started with the drugs. He was supposed to be released last fall but wasn't because of the feud with the Hardyz.
If it was an immediate release, especially because he just had a tag title shot, it could have stemmed from a backstage fight with Johnny Nitro, who is said to be on bad terms with officials.

he became released from his WWE contract on March 26 2007. Matthews is at present in Louisville as a coach for OVW's intermediate type, returning to action Wednesday, March 5 for OVW's television taping on the Davis area. Matthews back to OVW led to him defeating Jamin Olivencia for the OVW television call on the March fifteenth 2008 version of OVW.

he was never fired he was supposed to leave and when jhonny needed him that's when he came he was never fired he just took a break but watched wrestling closely and when he got the phone call that's when he came over sorry if i just said that twice

wasn't he in rehab last summer? he got fired because he failed the drug test and the MNM thing is way over anyway.
