They love small goldfish or minnows. Put the minnows in their water bowl and they will try to hunt for them. But make sure that the substrate is digestible because the snake will grab the fish and try to eat it on the substrate, the fish will get dirty and the snake will eat the fish, subrate and all. Good Luck!

My reptile-expert husband says - feed it crickets, earthworms & if that doesn't work, try a few feeder goldfish from the pet store (one at a time in about 3/4 inch of water).

Garter snakes generally eat large insects, small rodents, frogs, etc. If you have it in a tank, try earthworms, can get them cheap at any bait store. You can get crickets and meal worms at most pet stores.

its wrong to try to keep this as a pet... it will probably die... you need to let it free and go get oen from a pet shop... or something.... and they eat many diffrent things... if you dont let it go try goldfish, or crickets
