what is firewall and how can i remove it?

limewire wont work and people said it was the firewall what should i do to get it off? and what would happen if i get it off?

I think you have some problems with some application, which are not running because of the firewall u have. If you know on which port your application is running then u can set the firewall rules to open that port. that is safe and your work is also done. If you are trying get rid off some enterprise firewall or a LAN firewall which is preventing you from contacting outerworld use fragrouter. use fping to map the firewall rules then use fragrouter.

In the current crop of operating systems and environments,like Windows XP or the variety of Unix-like systems, we can only disable it, not remove it because it's practically built-in. If you disable the firewall, your computer will be more vulnerable to viruses, trojans, spyware and/or intrusion which may cause at least an inconvenience, or a major problem to the user of the computer.
For Windows XP, to disable the firewall, from the taskbar click the Start->Settings->Control Panel, click the Windows Firewall icon, it will display a set of radio buttons n the General tab that will enable you to either enable or disable it.

Check and see ho many firewalls you have running. Just use one and that may solve it. MY PC has three, Windows Firewall, Nortons Firewall and my wireless gateway as a firewall. I have them turned off except for the wireless router one and do not have any download problems. You do not want to be online and have no firewall running. It will allow hackers and malware through.

if you dont know what a firewall is, then all you have is windows firewall, and there are some options in it. and more then likely, it's not your firewall thats blocking limewire.

I hate to say this...but you don't want to remove your firewall. It could be all that stands between you and your computer crashing from an attack. Especially if you are using software such as limewire.

DO NOT TURN OFF YOUR FIREWALL UNLESS YOU WANT VIRUSES ON YOUR HARD DRIVE<

instead go into your firewall's exceptions list and click on limewire so the firewall will let it work.
