Will the soapy water effect it?

let it set on a paper towel for several days to completely dry out. since it wasn't in the computer when you dropped it there is no way it could be shorted out.

backup your flash drive. this will take two flash drives one plugged in at a time.

i make a new folder on the computer's desktop. the on the flash drive i drag the filees and folders over to it.

then put a new fash drive in the port and drag them back to it and you now have a copy of ecery thing.

go back to the desktop and delete that new folder and all of it's contents.

You're going to have to let it air-dry for a week or so to avoid damaging the usb drive or the computer you attach it to. Sometimes you can blow hot air into it with a hair dryer, but this also has a risk of heat damage. If you choose this route use extreme caution to hot hold the heat on it for too long a time.

Rinse it with distilled water and dry it out. Just don't try to use it while it's still wet. They're pretty tough. And don't trust important data to one device. Anything can quit anytime.
