You must get Spike the Dinosaur by Lamaze. There's so many fun things on there; the tail has cute colored ribbons on it and my boy loves to suck the tail. Also the baby piano (Little Tikes) is so cute to see them play on it and it's great for developmental reasons. And the stacked circles ($5), my baby loves that.
The price tag shouldn't matter; go with what's interesting. And speaking of tags, leave the fabric tag on! Sometimes my baby loves to play with the tag more than the toy!
My best advice is: if it looks interesting to you, your baby would love it. I was very interested in Spike the Dino, it has amazing detail...I debated getting it, turns out it's one of his fav's.
Good luck!

Two toys my 6 month old loves: The roll and crawl ball (really encourages moving) not sure the brand, got it at walmart, think v-tech, and the baby einstein toy bar for the carseat/carrier.
I have found that her favorite toys are found in the baby aisle at the grocery store, I hold up a few and let her pick one.

My son still loves the Baby Einstein car toy with lights, classical music, color names and a mirror that we got for him at birth. It is the only toy that keeps him quiet in the car. He also likes the crib aquarium, soft blocks, drum, Leap Frog Numbers & Colors Caterpillar, and recently (7 months) a cement mixers with rattle balls inside.
Some toys you already have at home he might like that my son likes - often preferring them over the expensive store bought stuff - pots, wooden spoons, empty oatmeal canister with rice inside (taped shut of course), empty baby wipes box, old remote control (batteries removed), any large cardboard box (especially if he can fit inside and I can push him around in it). Any empty cylinder shaped canister can be filled with rice or marbles or other noise makers and rolled around to encourage movement. Boxes of all sizes are usually a hit, too.
I try to balance the simple toys and the bright light-lots of noise-batteries required toys so that he is able to develop some imagination rather than just look at cool lights.

You are your baby's favorite thing to have around! Pat yourself on the back and have a great big smile knowing that you're your baby's favorite person.
As for things taht my kids liked to play with on their own, the Whoozit toy was always popular.

My daughter is 8 1/2months old. At 5 months she LOVED her Jumperoo. This is the one my friend just got for her little boy who is 5 months old.

that will be the best money you spend.
She loves the fabric books that make a crunchy sound and anything by LeapFrog. Basically anything that makes a sound!

At 5 months my son was all about his jumperoo. An absolute life saver. It will be the best investment! He is 8months now and still uses it all the time.

Hey there.
At that age my daughter loved mirrors - I purchased one to hang in her crib from bru and she LOVED it. She would laugh at it for minutes on end. She also liked her excersaucer. Toy rings (they come in teh alphabet and can link togehter...??) anything that was small enough she could clink togehter. She would hit her binkies together and laugh.
