When you decide to download music, get all the songs you want, all at once, and before you open them, right click on the folder where they are stored and choose "scan for virus's" option. (Depending on the antivirus software you have)

I like to create a folder called Downloads on my C: drive, and copy everything I download there first. I scan it for virus's, then I view it (or listen) and if it is a good copy, I move it to the folder of my choice.

Hope that answers your question.

Yes. If the file seem fishy. Per se, a mp3 file which is oddly 12 megabytes when it's only like 2 min. Or anything fishy, scan it first with a virus protection program. But these are usually outdated, or doesn't pick things up. Just use common sense on whether the file looks safe or not.

DO NOT open any .exe (executable) program files. download only music or movies, you could still possibly get a Trojan that can not be fixed by any virus scanner. This is why I don't use lime-wire anymore. My computer became very sluggish when I did. I had viruses I did not know I had till I rebuilt my system. Not to mention lime-wire is illegal........................
