Learn from the hurt, become a better person, reach even higher goals than you thought possible. Dream bigger, aim higher, work harder, prove them wrong. Every person you meet, obstacle you face can teach you if are just willing to listen. So, I say, become a better, more hardworking, successful person. Forgive them and do not keep the hate and revenge in your heart - it will slowly eat at you until nothing is left. Move on - they will be punished and judged in time (whether or not you are religious - by God or by other vengeful people). But do not sink to their level. Grow.

I just ignore them if they are a stranger. They are not worth the breath to comment.
But when a loved one says something insulting or hurtful I just say "ouch". They then realize that they have said something hurtful and apologize.

I believe in "killing them with kindness". Present yourself as the better person by not stooping to their level. People as well around will not believe that they could hurt someone as nice as you. You will also have a clear conscious.
I am also a firm believer in "what goes around comes around". Stand back and watch. May they reap what they sow.

Find their most vulnerable points based on personality, habits, clothing etc, prepare some blazing insults at them all & hurl em at him/her with a nice, big crowd present. :)

Make it a point to be nice to them, as strange as that sounds. That really burns them up.
