I think some kind of sport is real good. You need a focus outside yourself, you need to be physically active, you need to have something where you can perfect a skill. It can be anything. The discipline of a team is good, but not required. You do not need to make the basketball team to shoot free throws, or to make the swim team to go to the pool and swim a few laps. You can play golf, you can run, play tennis, anything. But you really should do something. It helps your academics by taking your conscious mind off the continuous academic track so you can return to your academic side with that side of your mind rested and refreshed.

I feel that athletics can be important to college, but the main focus should always be on education! The problem is that athletics make so much money for the colleges that people focus on them more and more! I think there is a lot of scams going on in athletics too!

I think college sports are an excellent way for kids to pay their way through their education. I wish I was such a talented athlete! Division 1 athletics are also a fun, alcohol and drug free past time for students.
