I've only played rec league, so take this for what it's worth. I've played with and without socks.
Right now, I use a thin sock made of a synthetic fiber to wick moisture. I hate the feel of regular athletic socks, but I do like to have something between my foot and the skate. But it is a personal preference thing. There's not much harm in trying, I guess, and see how it feels to you.

figure skaters wear panthose to give them that feel but still absorb some of the sweat. You can try it. It is not for everyone.
Here is the professional advice
Socks
When playing use regular athletic socks in your skates. It is not necessary to wear heavy wool socks or boot socks. Those socks were worn in the "olden days" when people only skated outside in sub-zero temperatures or were trying to accommodate that older siblings skates that were a bit too big. To avoid the leg chafing that occurs with some pads, long lightweight soccer socks can be worn.
Consider not wearing socks at all. Many players swear by the feel they get skating without socks. (Our hunch is that their skates probably smell and wear out sooner due to feet perspiration). Some in-line hockey players use a thin polypropylene inner sock and then a regular athletic sock over it. The polypropylene sock wicks away moisture.

It maybe, however fairly someone from any nation would possibly skate with out socks. One of my peers final 12 months mentioned he on no account wore socks along with his skates. We're American incidentally lol, so it can be real however that does not imply it applies for EVERY russian hockey participant. My pal skates barefoot however that does not imply all Americans skate barefoot.

wouldn't that hurt? I would think that the skate would rub up against your foot and hurt.
I've always worn socks with skates so I think my skates are kind of fit like that now. Like if I didn't wear socks one day, they would fit too loose. That's just me. I'd never wear skates without socks.

I played hockey for 30+ years, and I didn't
wear socks, either. I just liked a closer feel of
what was going on down there. Different strokes...

It's the same reason they play with a pair of skates too small for their feet. Like you say better feel for the ice. Paul Coffey played bare foot & with a pair of skates 2 or 3 sizes too small. Sure didn't hurt his skating ability!!

well, if you are playing hockey with full pads I suggest wearing soccer socks, especially if you play a lot. the long socks are comkfertable around the knee pad are and you dont get as much sweat on your legs

its a personal opinon and you can't know for sure till you try. Just be sure to keep in mind your skates will be stinking more, and may not last as long(from sweat and all). also i wouldnt suggest trying it if they are rental skates.
