What metal would not tarnish or rust? I have a couple of necklace chains that neither tarnish nor rust but I don't know what material they are made from. I know sterling silver/silver tarnish.

Anybody know?

. Some of the metals being used in jewelry and showing tendency of non tarnishing are described here:
White gold jewelry: White gold jewelry has a shiny silver hue that makes it look like platinum. White gold is virtually non-tarnishing.
Platinum jewelry is hypoallergenic, strong, durable, and tarnish resistant. Platinum costs more than gold and weighs more.
Five heavy metals with similar chemistry and weight (iridium, osmium, palladium, rhodium, and ruthenium) naturally alloy platinum. Unlike gold, platinum jewelry contains platinum in nearly pure form.
Nickle is yet another metal which possess the property of non tarnishing and used in making coins etc.Yet another possibility is of using Titanium.,which is also having non tarnishing ans anti rust properties.

Platinum, rhodium, and stainless steel all would be hard to tarnish. Nickel won't tarnish either, but it will leave a green stain on your skin if you wear it all the time, and can take on a faint green patina.
