I want to buy a small octopus for my salt water tank at home. I know how they are hard to take care of and escape artists and all that. Does anyone know any websites where I can buy a small size octopus? All of sites I have found have a $15 charge for the order being under $75, plus all of these extra charges that dont even exist. The octopus that I found was $53, but the order total came up to being over $150. If anyone has any good sites, THANKS!!!

I'd recommend reading this page first:

If you still want one, heres a site:

Remember, octopi are wild animals, and are very intelligent as well. It's important to stimulate the octopus and provide it with room to thrive. How big is your tank?

Remember, you get what you pay for. A bargain octopus is likely not going to make the trip, will not thrive in your home aquarium and may cost you a lot more in aquarium upgrades and medicines when trying to keep it alive. I've known several pretty good aquarium keepers who could not keep an octopus alive. Plus they typically just hide in the rocks except at night. You would enjoy bright salt water fish who swim around a lot much more.

OK first I will try to say this as nicely as I can but ARE U OUT OF YOUR MIND... that is SO SO SO SO sooo low. An octopus is a wild animal not a domestic one that's like saying I want a kangaroo from Australia... so I can just put it in a small cage and stare at it until it dies... that's really really low.

If you are worried or concerned about how much he costs and shipping, chances are you cannot afford to keep and care for him properly.

I will advise, if you are not an experienced keeper, don't get your octopi. your tank more than likely will need to be rearranged and added to just to suit him and him alone. They are really wonderful shy creatures and chances are you won't see him much in the tank. They have specific requirements and diet needs which are expensive. They will not survive on brine shrimp and frozen minnows and goldfish.

well they are going to charge a lot because it must live while it is shipped it needs a special tank while shipped, it has to be cared for if it is a long trip so im not surprised about the overcharges.try going to local fish stores, to buy one, where you will find no extra charges, but good luck finding one there.

I would say good luck finding one at any better price. They are hard to keep, hard to ship, sensitive and very difficult to keep. Many better suppliers won't deal in them because most don't live through shipping and those that do usually die very soon after. I know you don't want to hear it, but they are a terrible choice for any home aquarium.
